From touchscreen to movement: teaching methods that get the classroom moving
A student looking at the board. A teacher explaining. A classroom listening. We all know the scene.
But in more and more classrooms, the focus is shifting from listening to active learning. Students work together, learn from each other, get more opportunities to practise and play an active role in their own learning. Teaching methods such as cooperative learning, differentiation, station learning and formative assessment are becoming increasingly important in education.
And that’s exactly where technology can make a difference. Not as a goal in itself, but as a tool to make effective teaching methods even more interactive.
From whole-class teaching to learning together
Take cooperative learning. Students work together on an assignment, explain ideas to each other or build a solution as a team. An interactive touchscreen can become a shared workspace. A small group might create a mind map, organise concepts or work together to solve a problem. The rest of the class doesn’t just watch. They think along, respond and give feedback.
In primary education, this can be very practical: building a story together, sorting words or visualising a maths strategy. In secondary education, students might create an argument map or concept map, or work together on a research task. The interactive display is no longer simply a place where the teacher shows information. It becomes a space where students think together.
From learning corners to station learning
Station learning also fits naturally into an interactive learning environment. The class is divided into smaller groups. While one group works independently, another collaborates at the interactive touchscreen and a third gets active with Motion. This gives students different ways to engage with the same learning content.
For younger students, one station might focus on vocabulary, maths or exploring the world around them. Older students might solve a problem independently, give each other feedback or complete a digital assignment.
The great thing is that not everyone has to do the same thing at the same time. That creates more room for differentiation: extra support where it’s needed and additional challenge for students who are ready to move faster. Flexible grouping and differentiated learning also make it easier to respond to individual learning needs.
From quizzes to formative learning
We all know the classroom quiz. But an interactive question can be much more than a quick moment of “right or wrong”.
Ask a question on the interactive touchscreen and give students time to think individually. They can submit their answer on their own device and then compare responses with the rest of the class as the results appear in a graph on the display.
That’s formative learning in action: making student understanding visible, giving feedback and adjusting teaching as learning happens.
Educational software
Educational tools can help students practise quickly or make it easier to collect feedback. The interactive touchscreen then brings those responses together for the whole class to see. And sometimes Motion can add another dimension. Students can literally choose a position with the cube to show their answer. First they move, then they explain why.

Learning through movement
Movement in the classroom is nothing new. But technology can connect movement with learning content in fresh and engaging ways.
With Motion, the classroom becomes an interactive learning environment.
In primary education, a number line can suddenly appear right beneath students’ feet. They move towards a number, find an answer or work together to complete a task.
In secondary education, the same approach can be used for coordinates, timelines, language activities or responding to statements.
Movement isn’t simply a break from the lesson. Movement becomes part of the learning activity.
Start from a teaching method
That might be the most important idea of all. An interactive touchscreen doesn’t automatically transform teaching. Neither does Motion. The real value comes from starting with an effective teaching method and then choosing the technology that can strengthen it.

Because great teaching isn’t really about the screen. It isn’t about the technology. And it isn’t about Motion.
It’s about students actively thinking, collaborating, discovering and learning.
